So, I was at work for an hour. Awesome.
Anyways, it would appear that Barack Obama is no longer wearing a flag pin. Now, before we saying that he is being unpatriotic, let's think about this for a moment. Why would he do such a thing? After all, he is a presidential candidate; one would assume that he would want to appear as patriotic as possible. One would assume that wearing a flag pin would appear to be patriotic.
Barack said "The flag pin has become a substitute for true patriotism."
He has a point there. The general rule of thumb is, if you keep on pressing something, it will lose its value. That counts for the American Flag. People put the American flag pin on their suits, to appear patriotic, but in truth, it really means nothing. If Bin Laden put on an American flag pin, would he be patriotic?
The current state of the American Flag appears to be just jewelery or a novelty. Kids salute the flag because they're told to. People raise up the flag around the 4th of July because "its proper". People put flag pins on their clothing because its "accepted".
The flag pin doesn't mean anything. The flag itself doesn't mean anything. Its our belief, in our country, in what should be righteous, and in our God, that means something. Without those things, that flag really doesn't mean anything. Its just a pretty piece of cloth.
